The viral video depicting women drinking alcohol predates the release of the assembly election results in five states. The claims circulating on social media are misleading.
New Delhi/Vishvas News: In the assembly elections conducted in five states, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a majority in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, while the Congress obtained the maximum seats in Telangana. Simultaneously, the Zoram People’s Movement is set to establish the government in Mizoram. Following the announcement of the election results, a video has gone viral on social media depicting women consuming alcohol. Some users are sharing this video, alleging that BJP workers are organizing a celebration in response to their election victory.
Upon investigation, Vishvas News discovered that the image was circulating on social media platforms even before the release of the election results. Although it is purported to be from Telangana, we cannot verify its location and timing. However, the video is unrelated to the results of the 2023 Assembly elections held in five states.
What’s the viral post?
X user Aparna Aggarwal (archive link) posted the video on December 4, stating that it was recorded after the BJP’s victory. Facebook user ‘Umesh Sahni‘ (archive link) shared an image from the viral video, making a similar claim.

To verify the viral claim, we initiated the process by extracting a keyframe from the video and utilising Google Lens for a search. On November 20, 2023, a user named ‘Hum Log We The People’ posted the video (archive link), describing it as being from Tamil Nadu. Many users commenting on the post identified it as originating from Telangana.
Further investigation revealed that the video was uploaded on the YouTube channel “Banjara Ashwitha” on October 25, 2023, with the description indicating “Dasara Daawat.”
Additionally, a news article published on Dainik Jagran’s website on December 3, 2023, mentioned the assembly election results of four states, where the BJP secured a majority in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, while the Congress obtained the maximum seats in Telangana.
Moreover, another news article on Dainik Jagran’s website on December 4 mentioned the voting for 40 assembly seats in Mizoram on November 7, with the counting of votes taking place on December 4. The Zoram People’s Movement won 27 seats in Mizoram.
In response to the viral claim, local journalist Harsh from Telangana stated, “This is viral even before the election results are out. This is a video from Telangana, in which tribal women are drinking alcohol. It went viral during Dussehra.”
The timeline indicates that the election results for four states were declared on December 3, while Mizoram’s results were announced on December 4. However, the viral video has been available on the internet since October 25, 2023. The origin and exact timing of the video remain unconfirmed.
A scrutiny of the profile of the user who shared the video with misleading claims reveals that they have been associated with X since January 2023 and have 7,222 followers.
Conclusion: The viral video depicting women drinking alcohol predates the release of the assembly election results in five states. The claims circulating on social media are misleading.
