Fact-Check: Old video of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Dausa going viral with misleading claim

Vishvas News’ investigation found that the viral post is misleading. An old video of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ is being shared with claims that it is of Sachin Pilot’s ‘Jan Sangharsh Yatra’.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s ‘Jan Sangharsh Pad Yatra’ may have come to an end, but fake news and misleading posts on his yatra are still doing rounds on the internet. A video is going viral in which a huge crowd can be seen walking with Congress flags. It is being claimed that the video is from Sachin Pilot’s Jan Sangharsh Pad Yatra in Rajasthan. However, when Vishvas News investigated the post, the claim turned out to be misleading.

In the investigation, it was found that the viral video is from the Rajasthan leg of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra which took place in December last year. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi passed through the Gandhi Circle in Dausa. Meanwhile, Sachin Pilot took out his Jan Sangharsh Pad Yatra from Ajmer to Jaipur and it did not cross Dausa.

Claim:

The Twitter handle Veer Gurjar Sena tweeted a video (archive link) on May 11 and wrote, “holding the tricolor in the hands, the mass struggle begins with the proclamation of Bharat Mata Ki Jai against corruption. Rajasthan united in Pilot Jan Sangharsh Yatra.” Mistaking the viral video for Sachin Pilot’s yatra, other users are also making it viral.

Investigation:

Vishvas News first started scanning the videos and comments of the Twitter handle Veer Gurjar Sena. A huge crowd was seen in this 30-second video. We found a comment where a user described it as a fake video and wrote that this video is from Dausa. Vishvas News then made a Google search to know whether political rallies took place in Dausa in the last few months. During the search, it was found that Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ had taken place in Dausa in December. Apart from this, in February 2023, PM Modi inaugurated the first part of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Dausa. After the inauguration, PM Modi also addressed a huge public meeting in Dausa.

Taking the investigation further, Vishvas News tried to search the original video on Twitter itself with the help of keywords like ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra in Dausa’. Hitendra Pithadiya and Radhe Meena posted the video on December 16, 2022, and described it as Dausa’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Radhe Meena is the State President of the Rajasthan Unemployed Youth Federation. He confirmed to Vishvas News that the viral video is of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ which took place on December 16, 2022, at Gandhi Circle near Dausa Railway Station. He said that the video was shot when the Bharat Jodo Yatra was taken out from Meena High Court Nangal Pyaribas to Giriraj Mandir Dausa. It has nothing to do with the current yatra of Sachin Pilot.

Vishvas News also used the Google Earth tool while carrying out the investigation. On searching Gandhi Circle of Dausa, we found roads, buildings and light poles similar to the viral video. It can be clearly seen in the picture below that the white building and the light pole are the same in both videos.

In the next phase of the investigation, we scanned the official YouTube channel of Congress and started digging into the videos of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ held in Dausa. After a while, we found a thumbnail of a white-coloured building which is also visible in the viral video. Apart from this, two vehicles running together in the viral video were also seen in the video of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Investigation so far has proved that the video which is being made viral as Sachin Pilot’s recent Pad Yatra is an old video of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

Taking the investigation forward, Vishvas News scanned the e-paper of Dainik Bhaskar published in Ajmer. In the edition of May 11, we got the news related to Sachin Pilot’s Pad Yatra. The report stated that from May 11, Pilot’s ‘Jan Sangharsh Pad Yatra’ will start from Ajmer. This yatra was taken out against corruption. The yatra concluded in Jaipur on May 15. A video was also uploaded on Dainik Jagran’s YouTube channel on May 15 regarding the Pad Yatra where a huge crowd was seen walking with Sachin Pilot.

At the end of the investigation, social scanning of the Twitter handle Veer Gurjar Sena was done. It was found that this handle was created on August 2021. More than 9,000 people follow the account.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation found that the viral post is misleading. An old video of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ is being shared with claims that it is of Sachin Pilot’s ‘Jan Sangharsh Yatra’.
