Fact Check: Kerala student leader Aysha Renna’s picture goes viral in the name of journalist Rana Ayyub

The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The woman in the picture is not journalist Rana Ayyub, but Aysha Renna, the leader of the Fraternity Movement. She was caught by the Kerala Police during a highway blockade in Malappuram district on June 12, 2022.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A picture of a woman is being shared on social media with the claim that the police misbehaved with Rana Ayyub during a demonstration. It can be seen in the picture that the lady police is forcibly taking away the scarf of a sloganeering woman. The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News.

The woman in the picture is not journalist Rana Ayyub, but Aysha Renna, the leader of the Fraternity Movement. She was caught by the Kerala Police during the highway blockade in Malappuram district on June 12, 2022.

Claim :

Facebook user Zaib Ali (Archive link) shared this picture on 15 june, caption reads, “Jinnah was always right ..what a brave girl ..salute to her courage RanaAyyub may ALLAH be with her.”

Investigation :

To know the truth of the viral claim, we searched the photo through Google reverse image. We found a post on the Facebook page ‘Fraternity Movement Kerala’. It was uploaded on 13 June 2022. On scanning the page, we came to know that the Fraternity Movement is the student wing of the political organisation Welfare Party of India.

According to a news clipping shared on this page, the woman seen in the viral picture is Aysha Renna, a member of this organization.

According to the information given in the post, the Fraternity Movement organization did this demonstration on 12 June 2022 in support of its leader Afreen Fatima.

Actually, acting on the violence in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Police had bulldozed the house of Javed Mohammad, who was involved in the violence. In protest against this action, the Fraternity Movement organisation had demonstrated in Kerala on 12 June 2022.

During investigation, we found a post on Ayesha’s Facebook handle related to the protest at Malappuram’s ‘National Highway’ on June 12.

We also found a video report of the viral claim uploaded on a YouTube channel named MediaoneTV Live on June 13. Here too, the woman is described as Aysha Renna , a member of the Fraternity Movement organization.

For more information, we contacted Mohammed Asim, General Secretary of the Fraternity Movement organization. They told us the viral claim is false. This picture is of Aysha Renna , a member of our organization. On June 12, we demonstrated in support of Afreen Fathima on the ‘National Highway’ in Malappuram, Kerala. This picture was taken during the same.

In the last step of investigation, we did social scanning of the user who shared the fake claim. From scanning, we came to know that the user has 64 friends on Facebook. The user is a resident of Pakistan.

Conclusion: The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The woman in the picture is not journalist Rana Ayyub, but Aysha Renna, the leader of the Fraternity Movement. She was caught by the Kerala Police during a highway blockade in Malappuram district on June 12, 2022.
