Fact Check: Kejriwal Did Not Wear Bomb Disposal Suit, Old Morphed Picture Is Going Viral

New Delhi (Team Vishvas): A post is going viral on social media where Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal can be seen wearing a bomb disposal suit. According to the comments written by people in the post, he has worn this suit for his protection. We investigated and found that this claim is false. The original picture is of 2015 where Arvind Kejriwal was wearing a red sweater and white pants, not a bomb disposal suit.

CLAIM

In the viral photo, Aam Aadmi Party chief and Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal can be seen wearing a bomb disposal suit. The post has been shared by a Facebook page named ‘UP Chief Minister Report Card’.

FACT CHECK

We looked at this picture properly to start our investigation. In the viral picture, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal can be seen in a bomb disposal suit walking with his deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Raghav Chadha and other leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The water mark on the picture reads ‘getty images’.

We then took a screenshot of this photo and searched it on Google reverse image with the keywords ‘AAP Getty Images’. On the very first page, we got the real picture on the website of Getty Images. In this picture, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Raghav Chadha can be seen with few other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. In this picture, Arvind Kejriwal is wearing a red sweater and white pants. The description with this photo reads, ” NEW DELHI, INDIA – JANUARY 10: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal along with Manish Manish Sisodia and others arrive to address a press conference on January 10, 2015 in New Delhi, India. Kejriwal said that “BJP can neither give dharnas, nor can it do good governance. AAP can do both, so people should vote for us.” He also added, “When we were in power, we reduced the power tariffs. We also found this picture in a news story on the website of Hindustan Times.

We cropped the bomb disposal suit separately and did a Google reverse image search, we found it on the website www.rvcj.com.

For more confirmation, we spoke to Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Raghav Chadha, who said, “This photo is photoshopped.”

The photo was shared by a Facebook page named ‘UP Chief Minister Report Card’. This page has a total of 58,856 followers.

Conclusion: We investigated and found that this claim is false. The original picture is of 2015 and Arvind Kejriwal wore a red sweater and white pants, not a bomb disposal suit.
