Fact Check: Jio is not Giving Free Recharge Of Rs 401, viral claim is fake

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A viral message is shared with a link to avail Jio’s free recharge of Rs 401 and Disney-Hotstar subscription as special offer ahead of Diwali festival.

Vishvas News has received this claim on its fact checking WhatsApp chatbot (+91 95992 99372). Vishvas News investigation revealed the claim is fake. Cyber experts warn that clicking on any random links may lead to personal data theft and financial loss.

Claim

A viral post with Ambani’s picture is shared with a claim that Jio Digital Life is providing free recharge for Rs 401 along with free Disney-Hotstar subscription as Special Diwali Offer. The message informs that the offer is available only till 31 October 2020. The screenshot of this message can be seen below.

Investigation

We clicked on the link in the viral message to investigate the claim. It leads to a website operating in Jio’s name that collects the user’s name and JIO number to avail free Recharge and free Disney + Hotstar subscription for up to 3GB data per day.

Further to avail the special offer, the user is asked to share with at least 10 people on WhatsApp. We could confirm the link is fake.

We noticed that the link has been collecting personal information of the user, which may lead to financial loss in worst cases. Vishvas News has already investigated fake claims of free recharge in the name of Jio earlier. The fact check article can be read below.
