Fact Check: Image of project connecting Denmark and Germany is being shared as Underwater Road, Rail Tunnel in Assam

Vishvas News (New Delhi): A picture of an underwater bridge is being shared on social media with the claim that this picture is of a 14-km-long tunnel being built under the Brahmaputra river in Assam. The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation by Vishvas News. The viral image is of the Fehmarnbelt fixed link project connecting Denmark and Germany, which is now being shared with the false claim.
Claim :
Sharing the viral picture on June 1, Facebook user B K Awasthi wrote, “It is called New India, Modi hai to mumkin hai. India’s first underwater road and railway line, it is about 14 km long tunnel built under the Brahmaputra river in Assam.”

Investigation :
To know the truth of the viral picture, we searched the photo through Google reverse image. We found the original picture on the ‘Rambol‘ website. Rambol is a global architecture, engineering and consulting company based in Denmark.
According to the information given on the website, the viral image is the design of the Fehmarn Belt, a highway being built between Denmark and Germany.
We started searching on Google through related keywords, we found the viral picture published on many websites.
Tunnel Engineering Consultants, another consultancy involved in the construction of the Fehmarn belt, has also shared this picture on its website. Here too this picture has been shared with the same information.
Another website called Consultancy.UK has also shared this picture with the same information on its website.
During the investigation, we found the viral picture published on Vietnamese news websites Vsico and Tuoitre. According to the information, it shows an old design picture of the FehmarnBelt tunnel.
For more information, we contacted Assam-based journalist Aniruddha Bhakat. We shared the viral claim with them. He told us that the viral claim is false. So far no such picture has come out regarding the Brahmaputra Tunnel. Till now no information has been revealed regarding this project.
At the end of the investigation, Vishvas News did a social scanning of the Facebook handle of the user who shared the fake claim, B K Awasthi.
From scanning we found that he has 4,993 friends and 94 followers. According to the information given on the Facebook profile, the user is a resident of Kanpur.
Conclusion: The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The viral image is of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link project connecting Denmark and Germany, which is now being shared with the false claim.
