Vishvas News investigated the viral post, and the claim was found to be false. The viral clip was created by manipulating a portion of Rahul Gandhi’s speech. In the original video, Rahul Gandhi was discussing his conversation with a fashion designer. Certain segments of the video were edited and circulated in a way that falsely suggested Rahul Gandhi had called himself a tailor. Our investigation confirms that the viral post is fake.

Facebook user Shyam uploaded a video clip (archive link) of Rahul Gandhi on December 16. Using a smiley emoji it was written that “I am a tailor”. In the video clip, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “The world calls me a fashion designer, but I am not a fashion designer. I am a tailor and when I look at the fabric. Show me any cloth, show me any color. As soon as I see the fabric, I understand the fabric. How to cut it. How to put it on the person’s shoulders. Which color should go where? This is my skill. this is my work. I understand this. And I can tell you that I understand my work, my skills very well. I understand deeply. Now listen carefully. That cloth was made by a tailor. That tailor is hiding in this person’s back room. You take that tailor out. Send him to Paris, France, we will clap.”
Vishvas News Investigation:
Vishvas News conducted a thorough investigation into the viral video to ascertain its authenticity. Upon careful listening to the entire video, it became evident that Rahul Gandhi was narrating someone else’s statement. The Invid tool was employed to further the investigation, extracting keyframes from the viral video. Subsequently, using Google Lens, the original video was identified on the official YouTube channel of the Congress party.
The original video, dated June 11, 2018, featured the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi delivering a speech at the OBC conference. Upon reviewing the complete video, the part corresponding to the viral clip was located approximately 2:34 hours into the timeline. In this segment, Rahul Gandhi recounts an incident where he questioned a fashion designer about mocking an Indian counterpart.
Upon listening to the video, it was revealed that in response to Rahul Gandhi’s query about ridiculing an Indian, the fashion designer stated, “The world calls me a fashion designer. But I am not a fashion designer. I am a tailor. When I look at the fabric, show me any clothes in any color. As soon as I look at the clothes, I understand them—how to cut them, how to put them on the person’s shoulders, which color should go where. This is my skill, my work. I understand deeply. Now listen carefully. That cloth was made by a tailor. That tailor is hiding in this person’s back room. You take that tailor out. Send him to Paris, France. We will clap.”

It is an excerpt from his old video that has been manipulated and circulated. In the original video, Rahul Gandhi was sharing his conversation with a fashion designer.
Upon concluding the investigation, the user responsible for the fake post was examined. A social scan of Facebook user Shyam Jhedu revealed that the user resides in Rajasthan and has more than 2,000 Facebook friends.
