Fact Check: Edited Picture of Mamata Banerjee Leg Injury Viral With Fake Claim

Vishvas News (New Delhi): A picture going viral on social media claims that the bandage on the leg of Mamata Banerjee has shifted from the left to the right one and that she faked her injury. Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found that the original picture of Mamta Banerjee’s leg injury has been flipped with the help of an editing tool and is going viral with the fake claim.

Facebook user Nilesh Kala, while uploading Mamta Banerjee’s picture on 16 March, claimed: ‘Fracture is changing from left to right..its medical miracle..’

Investigation

Vishvas News searched the viral photo in the Google reverse image tool and got the results certain. We found the original picture on ABP Majha‘s website. It can be clearly seen that the bandage is tied in Mamta Banerjee’s left leg.

During the investigation, we also found a video of the discharge from her hospital on YouTube. In this, she can be seen sitting in her car from the wheelchair. The video was uploaded by the Hindustan Times YouTube channel on March 13.

We contacted JK Vajpayee, Bureau Chief of Dainik Jagran, Kolkata. He said that the bandage was tied in Mamata Banerjee’s left leg. The viral picture is edited.

The difference between the original picture and the edited picture can be seen below. The image has been flipped using photo editing tools.

We scanned the profile of the Facebook user Nilesh Kale who shared the viral post. We found that the user has more than 400 Facebook friends.
