Vishvas News investigated the viral post. It turns out that Mayawati’s old statement, which was related to the MLC election, is now going viral with the wrong context in the midst of the Assembly Elections. In our investigation, the viral post turns out to be misleading. She made this statement during the 2020 MLC polls.

Vishvas News first used Google reverse image tool on this screenshot. We found a news on Zee News website. In this news published on 29 October 2020, it was written that Mayawati had said that she may support BJP to defeat the SP in the MLC elections.

Vishvas News also found a Facebook Live of Zee Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand channel during the investigation. It was done on 29 October 2020. We came to know that the screenshot which is going viral now is actually an old screenshot of Zee Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand channel. On the 14th minute mark of the live, we saw the same content, which is now going viral. It can be viewed here.
Vishvas News also found an old video on ANI’s Twitter handle. This video of Mayawati’s press conference was uploaded on 29 October 2020. In this too, Mayawati was seen talking about supporting the BJP or other candidates to defeat the SP candidates in the context of the MLC elections. Watch full video here.
Taking forward its investigation, Vishvas News got in touch with Faizan Khan, the national spokesperson of the BSP, and shared the viral post with him on WhatsApp. He told us that “the old statement of the BSP chief is being viral with the wrong context. This claim is fake.”
In the final phase of the investigation, we did the social scanning of Facebook user Kisher Goyal. It turned out that the user is associated with a political party. 1631 people follow this user on Facebook. He is from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh.
