New Delhi (Vishvas News) Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Kolkata on Feb 10, after he complained of chest pain. The 73-year-old actor was soon discharged after receiving treatment. However, amid his recovery, a message has been circulating on social media platforms with claims that Mithun has passed away. Considering this claim to be true, fans across various platforms have been paying tribute to him. Vishvas News investigated the viral message and found it to be false. The claims regarding Mithun Chakraborty’s death are fake.
What’s in the Viral Post?
Facebook user Behpurpushkar999 wrote in a message on February 14, “Famous actor Mithun Chakraborty has just passed away.”
Investigation:
To verify the message concerning Mithun Chakraborty’s death, we initially used the Google Open Search Tool. Upon searching, numerous news websites reported on Mithun Chakraborty’s hospitalisation, providing detailed accounts. India TV published a news report on February 12 stating, “Actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on Saturday morning after showing symptoms of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. The actor was discharged from the hospital on Monday afternoon.”
During the search, a report was also found on Bhaskar.com which stated, “Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has been discharged from the hospital. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Kolkata on the morning of 10th February after complaining of chest pain. On Monday, the 73-year-old actor spoke to the media after being discharged from the hospital. He told that he is absolutely fine now and can return to work soon. Mithun also told that he had to be scolded by PM Narendra Modi for his deteriorating health.”
Continuing the investigation, Vishvas News reached out to Smita Srivastava, a senior journalist at Dainik Jagran who specialises in Bollywood coverage in Mumbai. Srivastava confirmed that the viral post was fake.
The Facebook user named Behpurpushkar999 who shared the viral post was scrutinised during the investigation. This account boasts over 52,000 likes and 66,000 followers.
