On September 12, 2024, Facebook user Mahashree Parajapat Baaya shared this video (archive link) with the caption,
“Amitabh Bachchan finally broke the silence and made this video to open our eyes because it’s too late.”
The video states, “Where is the humanity in this country, where girls are killed by stoning? Where terrorists are openly supported and slogans of ‘zindabad’ are raised for the enemy nation. Where religion takes precedence over the constitution, and even the existence of Lord Ram is questioned. How can such a country succeed as a family in the world? Those who followed their religion now reside in 57 countries, while those who embraced brotherhood and humanity are struggling to save their existence in their own country today.” The video concludes with an appeal to share it.
Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we first scanned Amitabh Bachchan’s social media handles. We did not find any such video on his Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Even after searching on Google, we could not find any media report verifying the viral claim.
To analyse the voice used in the video, we ran the first 19 seconds of the audio through the AI detection tool Hive Moderation, which found that it was over 95% likely to be AI generated.
Our partner DAU (an MCA initiative) also checked the audio using the True Media Detection Tool, which indicated the possibility of AI-generated voice usage.
We reached out to AI-expert Ansh Mehra, who confirmed that the video was created using AI tools.
We scanned the profile of the Facebook user who shared the video with the misleading claim. The user, residing in Bayad, Gujarat, has over 5000 followers.
