New Delhi (Vishvas News): A screenshot of a tweet is going viral on social media from a person who asserted that he was the manager of a Starbucks outlet in Charlotte, North Carolina. He proclaimed that he had “informed my employees that they will be fired on the spot if I hear them say ‘Merry Christmas’ to any customers” — an action he purportedly took because he dislikes conservative Christians. Vishvas News investigated the post and found the person being referenced neither worked for Starbucks nor Starbucks has made any such guideline in its coffee shops. The viral post is fake.

Claim

A screenshot being shared on social media of a user named Chris, username @MuellerDad69, reads: “I’m the manager of a Starbucks in Charlotte NC. I have informed my employees that they will be fired on the spot if I hear them say ‘Merry Christmas’ to any customers” — an action he purportedly took because he “personally dislike(s) conservative Christians.” The archived version of the post can be checked here.

Investigation

When Vishvas News investigated the account name @MuellerDad69 from which the screenshot of the tweet was taken, as per the claim, we found that the account is suspended. https://twitter.com/MuellerDad69 Twitter suspends accounts which violate the Twitter Rules.

We further investigated and found a report on the website of Business Insider. As per the report, Starbucks said the @MuellerDad69 account is fake and that the coffee company doesn’t dictate how its employees welcome customers, including holiday greetings.

The same account has previously claimed to discriminate to against military service members and police officers who were customers at Starbucks, as per Business Insider report.

Vishvas News spoke to Starbucks Customer Care Official, an official named Leena denied any such activity and any such engagement in Starbucks outlets

The post is shared on Facebook by a user named Craig Raees. When we scanned the profile of the user we found that the user is based out of Florida.

Conclusion: No, this coffee outlet didn’t threaten to fire employees who say ‘Merry Christmas’. The post going viral is fake.
