Vishvas News hosted a session on October 21, 2019 that was attended by IFCN’s Director Baybars Orsek, who shared the details about the IFCN, its work and activities, code of principles and also the growth of the fact-checking movement globally.
Vishvas News conducted a year-long training programme for 20 journalists from 10 major Indian news organisations to equip them with the knowledge and skills required for fact-checking and news verification. These 20 fellows included two each selected from 10 leading media organisations shortlisted by Vishvas News: The Indian Express, The Hindu, Hindustan Times, Asianet News, Manorama Online, Lokmat, Deccan Herald, Press Trust of India, Prajavani and Mathrubhumi.
The fellows worked with international experts and trainers from Vishvas News.
It began with an intensive, five-day workshop. A number of learning modules were used for this training.
This was followed by daily sessions for one year, and the modules were tailored keeping each participant in mind.
More than 50 fact-checking tools were discussed and taught, to turn these journalists into professional fact-checkers.
The programme, supported by the IAMAI and Meta, ran from December 2021 and culminated with a day-long conference at the Meta office on November 30, 2022.
