Fact Check: Two-Year-Old Video of Bengal Passed Off As Bihar Relating It With Bihar elections

The viral claim suggesting that BJP leaders were thrashed by the crowd for spreading hatred between Hindu Muslim is fake. The video is going viral on the internet for at least two years. It has nothing to do with Bihar elections.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A video going viral on social media shows a person being beaten by the crowd. As per the claim, the video is of Bihar and the incident happened amidst the Bihar elections. The claim suggests that BJP leaders were thrashed by the crowd for spreading hatred between Hindu Muslims.

Vishvas News investigated the viral posts and found it to be fake. The video is going viral on the internet for at least two years. It has nothing to do with the Bihar elections.

Claim

Facebook user Shahil Ali uploaded a video on November 6 claiming that BJP leaders were thrashed by the crowd for spreading hatred between Hindu Muslims.

Investigation

Vishvas News uploaded the viral video to the InVID tool and extracted some screen grabs from it. We performed Google reverse image search of the screengrabs. We found a video on a YouTube channel that was uploaded on April 17, 2018, on a channel named Shamshudin Shamshu.

Looking at the video carefully, we found some shop names written in Bengali. It was clear that the old video of West Bengal was now used to spread propaganda by linking it with Bihar elections.

In the next phase of the investigation, we contacted JK Vajpayee, Chief of West Bengal Bureau of Dainik Jagran. He explained, “This is an old video from Bengal. It is difficult to tell its exact location. “

We performed social scanning of the user who shared the post. We found that the Facebook user Shahil Ali hails from Orai in Uttar Pradesh.

Conclusion: The viral claim suggesting that BJP leaders were thrashed by the crowd for spreading hatred between Hindu Muslim is fake. The video is going viral on the internet for at least two years. It has nothing to do with Bihar elections.
