Fact Check: Viral Video Of Two Singers Shared With False Claim Linking Them To Manipur

Vishvas News (New Delhi): In the midst of the ethnic turmoil in Manipur, a video featuring a boy and a girl singing a song has gained significant traction on social media. The video is circulating with a claim that both individuals originate from Manipur, with one belonging to the Kuki community and the other to the Meitei community.

During its investigation, Vishvas News found that the viral claim is false. Both singers have no association with Manipur. The individuals featured in the video hail from Uttarakhand. The female singer’s name is Shekinah Mukhiya, and she is performing the song alongside her father, Vikash Mukhiya.

Sharing the viral video on August 7, 2023, Facebook user Anand Kumar wrote in the caption, “How cute and melodious… we are humans first. The rest is imaginary. Of these, one is a Kuki from Manipur and the other is Meitei. That is the beauty of diversity and love.”

Investigation

To discover the authenticity of the post, we initiated a Google search using relevant keywords. Our search led us to a video uploaded on March 25, 2023, on a YouTube channel titled Shakina Mukhiya. Based on the available information, the singer is singing along with her father.

On further digging into the YouTube channel, we found the official Facebook account of singer Shekinah Mukhiya. On August 7, 2023, the singer shared a screenshot of the viral video on her account and said, “This video is of me and my father Vikash Mukhiya. We are not from Manipur but from Uttarakhand. We have no relation with Manipur.”

For more information, we reached out to Vikash Mukhiya. “The viral claim is false. I am from Uttarakhand. My name is Vikash Mukhiya and the girl seen with me is my daughter Shekinah Mukhiya. We have been making videos of singing songs like this and uploading them on our YouTube channel. People are sharing our video with a false claim.”

Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the video with the false claim. We found that the user has 4,554 friends on Facebook.

Conclusion: Vishvas News found in its investigation that both singers have no connection with Manipur. The singers seen in the video are residents of Uttarakhand. The name of the singer is Shekinah Mukhiya and she is singing the song along with her father Vikash Mukhiya.
