However, the misleading and false claims associated with it continue to spread on social media. The storm caused extensive damage in Gujarat, and images depicting the aftermath were widely circulated online. Within this context, certain videos are being circulated, falsely claiming to be associated with Cyclone Biparjoy. A social media user named ‘active fun fanshared the viral video with the caption “Biparjoy storm moving towards Kutch in Gujarat.” Another user shared a different video, referring to it as “Biparjoy Toofan.” A user attributed another similar video to the recent Biparjoy storm.

Vishvas News Investigation:

Vishvas News investigated the three videos individually.

First video:

Several users across different social media platforms shared the same video, accompanied by identical or similar claims. By conducting a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral video, we found a video uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘rtsarovvideo,’ which matches the viral video.

The video, titled ‘Tornado on the horizon,’ was uploaded on August 10, 2022, and provides information about various types of tornadoes. It is evident that this video is not related to Cyclone Biparjoy.

Second video:

In a reverse image search, we discovered that this video was uploaded on the ‘FOX Weather’ YouTube channel. The screenshot of a video uploaded on the ‘FOX Weather’ YouTube channel matches the viral video. This video uploaded approximately eight months ago, is purportedly from Cyprus. However, there were no reports of any casualties or property damage caused by this storm.

Third video:

The viral video was found uploaded on the ‘Disaster Compilations’ YouTube channel. The accompanying information states that it depicts a tornado storm in China’s Jingji province. According to the provided information, this video is of a tornado storm that occurred on June 1. Based on our investigation, it is clear that all three viral videos are unrelated to Cyclone Biparjoy in Gujarat. We contacted Narendra Ahir, a correspondent from Dainik Jagran’s Saurashtra bureau, regarding the viral video. He confirmed that none of these videos are associated with Biparjoy.

It is important to note that on June 14, the cyclonic storm Biparjoy formed in the Arabian Sea and made landfall on the coasts of Gujarat. According to news reports, the storm brought winds with speeds reaching 140 kilometres per hour. No fatalities were reported, but 47 individuals were injured, and 234 animals lost their lives.

According to the tracking data available on the website Zoom.Earth, the Biparjoy storm has since weakened and transformed into a low-pressure area. On June 15, it reached the status of ‘SC’ (Severe Cyclone), while between June 11 and 14, it was classified as ‘VC’ (Very Severe Cyclone).
