Fact Check: Fake post getting viral on the name of Javed Akhtar

A post is getting viral on social media in which the photo of Javed Akhtar is used with a text that states: “If Muslim-majority Kashmiris are not allowing to return to their homes, it doesn’t mean Rohingya Muslims should be moved out of India. India is a secular country, not only for Hindus.” In the investigation of Vishvas News, it was found that this post is fake. Javed Akhtar did not make any such statement.

Claim

In the viral post on Facebook, the text with the photo of Javed Akhtar reads in Hindi: मुस्लिम बहुल कश्मीर में हिन्दू पंडितों को घरवापसी नहीं करने दे रहे इस का मतलब ये नहीं कि रोहिंग्या मुसलमानों को भी भारत से निकला जाय। भारत सेक्युलर देश है, हिन्दुओं के बाप की जागीर नहीं। (English: If Muslim-majority Kashmiris are not allowing to return to their homes, it doesn’t mean Rohingya Muslims should be moved out of India. India is a secular country, not only for Hindus).

Investigation

We started our investigation by searching the news on mainstream media but no media house has covered this news. We then scanned the social media accounts of Javed Akhtar. We did not find any such post made from his social media verified accounts.

We further verified by contacting Javed Akhtar’s manager, Shravan Kumar. He told us that this news is fake. Javed Akhtar has never said such a thing.

This post was shared by a Facebook user ‘Anjali Dharmesh Thakkar’ on a Facebook page named ‘I Support Namo’.

Conclusion

The post viral with the name of Javed Akhtar is fake. He did not say that if Muslim-majority Kashmiris are not allowing to return to their homes, it doesn’t mean Rohingya Muslims should be moved out of India. India is a secular country, not only for Hindus.
