Fact Check: CNN’s edited screenshot goes viral with false claim

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A screenshot of CNN’s news is being shared on social media and it is being claimed that according to the news published by CNN, the Russian army set fire to a warehouse, which had children and women in it. The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. CNN’s screenshot is being edited and is being widely shared. This news has not been published by CNN. The image has been edited. There is no record of CNN publishing such an article.

What Is Going Viral ?

The headline seen in the screenshot reads: “Russian Military Forces Set Fire to Compound Outside Kiev Occupied by Women and Children, Burning Them Alive.”

Investigation –

To know the truth of the viral screenshot, we searched on Google through several keywords, but we did not get any report related to the viral claim. Then we started scanning CNN’s website and social media accounts, but could not find any such news.

Moving ahead, we searched the photo through Google reverse image. During this, we found the original picture on Getty Images. According to the information given on the website, this picture was taken in 1993 in the US city of Texas. When the Bureau of Alcohol raided the Mount Carmel compound of the Branch Davidians.

For more information, we took a closer look at the screenshot and found that it was written by Katie Bo Lillis, Natasha Bertrand, and Barbara Starr. After this, we contacted Katie Bo Lillis via Twitter and shared the viral screenshot with her. She told us that, “The viral claim is fake. The website has not published any such news. This screenshot is edited”.

Vishvas News, in the last phase of the investigation, conducted a background check on the profile that shared the viral post. We found that the user has 351 friends on Facebook. Sam Armstrong lives in New York.
