Fact Check: The man singing with women on stage in the viral video isn’t Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Vishvas News (New Delhi): A post is going viral on social media amid the Ukraine-Russia war, in which a man can be seen singing a song on stage for some women. The post is claiming that the person in the video is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Vishvas News in its investigation found that this claim is false. The man in the video is not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but a comedian from the Ukrainian band and a Ukrainian politician, Vasily Gumenyuk.
What’s in the viral post?
Facebook user Yogesh Dangayach Namo posted this picture on his Facebook profile and captioned it as “Friends….present to you….New Global Hero, Intellectual – New brother-in-law of Elite Society, Great Warrior of the World. The axis….the great President of Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelensky! Fighting the whole Russian army alone. Regards, Proshtanga!!!!”
Investigation:
Vishvas News searched the screen grabs of this video with the help of Google reverse image. We found this video uploaded in October 2017 on a verified Facebook page named тудія “Квартал 95“. The text posted along with the video read “Translated: Eyes are the mirror of the soul. But if these are the eyes of a real Ukrainian, this soul can go much deeper…Ukrainian folk song “Black eyebrows, brown eyes” performed by the team “Vinnitsia.”
We also found screenshots of this viral video used in a news article on prolviv.com. This story was published on October 2017. According to the news, “At a show named League of Laughter in Ukraine, a team named Vinnitsia sang the song ‘Eyes of a Maiden’.”
Taking a clue from here, we searched the internet for Team Vinnitsia. We found out that this is a Ukrainian music band. And the name of the person performing in the video is Vasily Gumenyuk.
We then searched the screenshots of the viral video on Google reverse image with the keywords ‘Vasily Gumenyuk’. We found this photo in a news article on ria.ru. According to the news “Translated: The President of Ukraine has appointed Vasily Gumenyuk, a comedian in the comedy show “League of Laughter”, as chairman of the Yarmolinetsky District State Administration of the Khmelnitsky Region.
Vishvas News has contacted Ukraine’s fact-checking team to check the post. The fact check will be updated as soon as a response is received from there.
Vishvas News checked the social background of the user who shared the viral screenshot. Yogesh Dangayach Namo is a resident of Jaipur.
Conclusion: Vishvas News in its investigation found that this claim is false. The man in the video is not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but a comedian from the Ukrainian band Vinnitsa Peppers and Ukrainian politician, Vasily Lyubaniyuki.
